William T. Kirk (1815-1900) was a pioneer settler of Franklin Township. In 1837, the town of Kirkland was named after William and his family.
He and his wife, Louisa, raised 9 children in Kirkland. He owned over 1500 acres and gave the right of way through the town for the Milwaukee Railroad.

The Kirkland Historical Society is an outgrowth of “Kirkland: Then and Now,” a historical play performed in 2007 in commemoration of Kirkland’s 125th birthday.
Our mission is to stimulate interest in the Kirkland area history through education,
research, collection and preservation.
