William T. Kirk (1815-1900) was a pioneer settler of Franklin Township. In 1837, the town of Kirkland was named after William and his family.
He and his wife, Louisa, raised 9 children in Kirkland. He owned over 1500 acres and gave the right of way through the town for the Milwaukee Railroad.

The 2016 Calendar features historical photos of Fairdale, IL. Available at Kirkland Village Hall, Kirkland Library, Alpine Bank of Kirkland, or contact us and we will arrange a pick up.
The Kirkland Historical Society is an outgrowth of “Kirkland: Then and Now,” a historical play performed in 2007 in commemoration of Kirkland’s 125th birthday.
Our mission is to stimulate interest in the Kirkland area history through education,
research, collection and preservation.
